Lakshmi coin necklaces handcrafted in 22K (916) BIS hallmarked gold — from a 12-coin everyday mala to the 108-coin bridal haram.
"Kasu" is the coin. A kasu mala is gold currency turned into ornament — and in South India, it has stayed in fashion for a thousand years.
Known as kasulaperu in Telugu, kasu malai in Tamil and kasina mala in Kannada, the coin necklace began as temple offering and royal gift before becoming a bridal essential. Each coin carries an embossed Lakshmi in relief, struck and finished by hand, then strung on a braided or twisted gold chain.
At Ambaa Gold we have made kasu malas since 1999 from our Mumbai unit, with a branch in Warangal serving Telangana and Andhra retailers. Every piece is 22K (916) BIS hallmarked, with hollow-coin and lightweight formats when a lower weight is wanted, and selected 18K versions for contemporary designs.

What is a kasu mala?
A kasu mala is a South Indian necklace strung with gold coins — 'kasu' means coin. Each coin traditionally carries an embossed Lakshmi, which is why it is also called a Lakshmi kasu mala or Lakshmi coin necklace.
Is kasulaperu the same as kasu mala?
Yes. Kasulaperu (Telugu), kasu malai (Tamil), kasina mala (Kannada) and kasu mala all describe the same coin necklace. Regional names differ; the design grammar is shared.
How many coins are in a kasu mala?
Short malas usually carry 12 to 24 coins, mid-length designs 32 to 48, and full bridal harams 60 to 108 coins across single, double or triple layers.
How much does a kasu mala cost?
Price is weight-based: the live 22K gold rate multiplied by the piece weight, plus making charges and GST. A short mala starts around 16–20 g and a full bridal haram can reach 90–120 g, so the final figure moves with the day's rate. Do you make kasu mala in 18K or lightweight versions?
Yes. We make hollow-coin and lightweight 22K formats for daily and gifting wear, and selected 18K contemporary designs where a lower weight is needed.
