Why the 916 BIS hallmark matters
Understanding what hallmarking certifies, why it matters, and how to verify it on every piece.

What 916 actually means
916 is the international standard for 22-karat gold — 91.6% pure gold alloyed with 8.4% of stronger metals to make the piece wearable. Anything sold as 22-karat in India must carry a BIS 916 hallmark by law.
The hallmark is your assurance that the piece has been independently assayed at a government-licensed centre.
Reading the four marks
A genuine BIS hallmark carries four elements: the BIS triangle logo, the purity number (916, 750 or 585), the six-digit HUID and the jeweller's identification mark. All four must be present and machine-engraved, never stamped.
You can verify any HUID instantly through the BIS Care app — match the design and weight on screen against the piece in hand.
Our commitment
Every single Ambaa Gold piece is hallmarked before it leaves the atelier — no exceptions, including custom and bridal orders. Hallmarking is a baseline, not a feature.
